Coming off a week of Disney adventures, I had hoped to jump right back into training mode, but the reality was a bit different. My body needed more time to recover than I’d expected, so this week became a mix of low-mileage runs and easing back into the routine. Sometimes, you have to listen to your body and take it slow, and that’s exactly what I did.
Sunday 10/27/2024 – Travel Day and a Short Farewell Run
With our flight home scheduled for later in the day, I squeezed in a quick 1.5-mile run in the warm Florida sunshine before heading back to the timeshare for a final round of clean-up. I wanted to make the most of one last sunny run, but after a week on my feet at Disney, my legs were feeling it. I added a half mile to my usual streak, which isn’t much, but it was all I had in me.
Monday Thru Thursday 10/28 – 10/31/2024 – Slow Start and One-Mile Streak Days
The first few days back home were tough. I was exhausted from the travel and still feeling the effects of a busy vacation week. I managed to get myself out the door each day, but only for 1 mile at a time. It wasn’t what I’d hoped for, but it kept the streak alive and gave my legs a bit more time to recover.
We had the spookiest house on the block for Halloween. The kids loved the smoke! But Kelly, not so much as it seeped in the house with each doorbell ring.
Friday 11/1/2024 – Kicking It Back Into Gear with a 4.2-Mile Run
By Friday, I was ready to push a bit harder and kickstart my training again. I tackled a full backyard ultra loop, logging 4.2 miles. My legs felt heavy and I was definitely tired, but it was the push I needed to shake off the sluggishness of the past few days. Sometimes a longer run is just what it takes to reset the body and mind.
Saturday 11/2/2024 – Feeling Normal Again with a 5K
On Saturday, I wrapped up the week with a 3.1-mile run. This one felt like a turning point—I could feel myself getting back to normal. It was nice to end the week on a positive note, feeling more like my usual self and ready to build on this momentum.
Week Wrap-Up
Overall, I logged 12.8 miles for the week: not quite where I want to be, but a solid step in the right direction after a week of vacation and a slow recovery. I’m chalking it up to a bit of cross-training with all the walking at Disney and using this time as a reset. Now, I’m looking forward to ramping up the mileage and getting back into a more consistent groove next week.
