Training Log: Week of October 20th, 2024

This week, we traded in the chilly New York weather for the warmth of Disney World. Ironically, the temperature spiked back home while we were away, which is turning out to be a classic vacation joke! With a packed schedule of park visits and pool time, this week’s post will be abbreviated, as the mileage was low and the focus was more on family fun and relaxation.

I stuck to a simple plan: a 1-mile run each day, usually in the morning before we headed out. The exception was October 24th, when I managed a 2-mile run.

While the daily miles were minimal, we were on our feet all day, every day. I tallied over 124,000 steps for the week, which included lots of standing in lines, taking pictures, and exploring the parks. For ultra training, this kind of “time on feet” can be just as valuable as running miles, so I’m counting it as a decent trade-off.

Mileage Recap:

  • October 21-23: 1 mile each day
  • October 24: 2 miles
  • October 25-27: 1 mile each day

Total running mileage: 9 miles
Total steps for the week: >124,000 steps

Week 4 Wrap-Up

This week was a break from the usual routine, but it was full of movement and quality family time. Even though the running mileage was low, I’m happy with the overall effort, especially considering the long days and countless steps logged at the parks. It was a reminder that sometimes, training looks different, and time on your feet can be just as beneficial as time spent running.

Now, it’s time to get back home, settle into the cooler weather again, and return to regular training with fresh energy!
